Lebron James’ SpringHill Entertainment Inks Deal With ABC Studios
Springhill Entertainment has found a new home. After nearly five years, the production company founded by NBA All Star Lebron James and his Business Partner Maverick Carter has left Warner Brothers for a two-year overall deal for scripted television with ABC Studios, an entity of Disney Television Studios.
The deal comes after James and Carter met with numerous networks and streaming services earlier this year according to Deadline.
The announcement of the deal comes one day after Springhill Entertainment announced it is now The SpringHill Company, a global consumer and entertainment brand focused on empowerment. The company will continue to produce premium scripted and unscripted programming led by Chief Content Officer Jamal Henderson with executives Eric Oberland and Lezlie WIllis leading scripted development projects.
The company is packing a powerful punch after securing $100 million dollars in financial backing. Springhill prides itself on creating content that is authentic to the shows and programming that Lebron and Carter would watch. “We want our content to be insightful in every way,” said Carter. “Disney is an incredible home for SpringHill’s future growth in scripted television.
The new projects under the ABC Studios deal will join a variety of projects previously produced by James’ company such as Starz scripted series Survivor’s Remorse, Netflix limited series Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker, starring Octavia Spencer; Quibi docuseries I Promise a behind the scenes look at the first year at Lebron’s I Promise school, and Shut Up and Dribble, about power and oppression in sports.
